I recommend starting with a question, ” What to write about?“

You are a baby boomer with years of experiences. Now is the time to translate these experiences into an eBook, and this should not be too difficult.

First checkout an ezinearticles.com website. There, you will find tons of articles (from 300-700 words) with various subjects. See which subjects interest you and read a few of them to get some ideas. Then find a subject you like, write one article and submit it to ezinearticles.com website.

If you get accepted, congratulation ! You have just written a miniature eBook. You can also check a download statistic and see how many persons read you article. You will be surprised; it could be from 8 to 25 readers in two weeks.

Now if you get rejected, don’t despair. Just fix the problems and resubmit. Continue to do so until you get accepted. I have submitted a few article myself, so if I can get articles accepted, you can do it too.

Next, Expand the Topic 

Once you have found your niche subject, now is the time to expand it by putting in more details and make it more interesting.

At this point I suggest you take a look at the Dummies series book. You can find it in most bookstores. See how they present an idea. Checkout similar book series as well.

actually purchased from a website. You can take a look.Now you are not going to see the whole book, but excerpts from it, unless you want to spend some money and actually purchase the eBook by downloading. I have found the eBook to be first rate and very useful.

Then construct your eBook with your own style. Organize it in such a way that it expresses your personality. It will shine through as the reader goes through it. Whatever you do, do not copy them. Copyright is a serious issue and you do not want a cease and desist order to stop selling your popular eBook.

To me, an eBook must be comprehensive enough for anybody to follow or practice easily.

If you want to get deeper into the subject you may want to put it off to the last few chapters or start eBook number two (eBook number one would be a prerequisite to ebook number two).

I say a good rule of thumb is you should have at least 10 to 20 chapters and not less than 200 pages, to make the eBook comprehensive enough. The price of the ebook should be about $15-$20.

You need a PC, a word processing software, like Open Office from Sun Micro Systems and a PDF converter which Open Office has it. You may want an eBook cover software to spruce up your eBook; there are few of them on the web for free. So check it out.

There are few books and eBooks out there showing you how to put together the eBook and make it look professional. A little bit of touch up here and there will make a difference. Although keep in mind that the value of the eBook is its content.

Open Office is an open source software which you normally can download for free. I have used it for over a year and found it to be reliable enough. However, if you want more options and supports then you may consider Adobe products.

Put Your eBook on Sale

You now have an eBook in PDF format. Traditionally, to get this far is an uphill fight, to get a publisher to accept you book is almost like pulling teeth and I would be reluctance to recommend the strategy.

Today you do not need a publisher to accept your eBook, although if you could find a publisher to endorse your eBook, take the offer.

To put your eBook up for sale you need to check out digibuy.com, a website that process a credit card transaction for you as well as deliver your ebook to the paid customer.

Digibuy.com handling charges are a little bit high, but it is quick to get you ready to sell.
