I have found an eBook on how to build an eBook, “ Create Your Own Ebook” by Alf A. Pedersen at How to build an ebook.

His book is very informative and gets into details on the following topics:

- Organize you eBook properly so you can convert it to PDF conveniently. Alf really gets into details on this topic, because he feels that it is an important first step. Alf gives you plenty of illustrations on this.

- Using free software tool like OpenOffice is a good opener; Alf also has other tools that he recommends. Although I still like OpenOffice quite a bit because I have been using it for a while.

- Look at details on PDF and why use it, as well as how to use it in conjunction with your word processor, and details on word processors layout versus PDF layout.

“ You may discover that after the PDF has been produced, it may have done some editing on its own. Headers may be placed towards the left margin…” Alf shows you how to fix this problem.

- How to build an eBook cover is also covered quite well. Alf suggests that you pay close attention to this section. A professional looking cover will go along way, and that does not mean high price either.

This will attract potential customers significantly after content. Let me say again, content comes first. Quality content is what your potential customers are expecting from your eBook.

I have an example of a professional looking eBook cover here (image on the right). Alf was kind enough to send me the image to be used as an illustration. Notice the sharp title characters and backgrounds.
