Let me tell you a brief story as to how it came about. I started to work for a big computer company in Kingston, upstate New York in 1978, after I graduated from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NYC. I commuted to Staten Island where my parents lived on most weekends. At the time my mother was working for the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital, in Brooklyn of course. 
It was a fifteen odd miles drive to work early in the morning, like 5:30 AM to get there by 7:30 AM. I used to drive her to work, then go to Pratt afterward. I was always early for school. At the end of the day we drove back home.Then, when I had to work in Kingston, upstate New York, my father had to take her to work instead. It was a bit tough for both of them. Keep in mind NYC is quite cold during winters; you have snow storms from time to time, and those icy roads can be tricky. 
Then in 1981, there were opportunities possible for me to transfer to Florida. I took the opportunity. This move was good for me and for my parents. I told them about the transfer and they were a bit reluctant. This is understandable, since they have been in NYC since 1966, and have quite a few friends and acquaintances here. So, I went to Florida, to Boynton Beach in particular and bought a two-bedrooms home. It was a nice size home, relatively new, and a bit expensive, it cost $75,000. I was a bit shock. My two-family home in Kingston, New York was only $24,000. I had to take a bigger mortgage for this. 
This home has a big back and front yard. This is good because both of my parents loved to plant trees and vegetables. I knew that they would love it. A month after I bought the home, I moved from Kingston, New York to Florida. My mother came down to visit and about three months later my parents decided to move down to stay with me in Florida. They had a great time. The weather is mild. No more snow and ice, and my father loved to go to the beaches; it’s about fifteen miles from our home. My mother went to work for JFK Memorial Hospital for a few months before she decided to call it quit. At that time she was a few months from 62. By the time she was 62, she started to collect Social Security. She is now 84 and still collects Sociality and qualified for medical benefits. My mother has been happy throughout this time. My father passed away a few years back. He had enjoyed Florida life as well. So do consider Florida as a place to retire. Baby Boomers retire in Florida can be a good thing.
