Baby Boomer Carpentry Is Ideal For Someone Who Likes To Build And Fix Things

Baby Boomer Carpentry

Baby Boomer Carpentry is another strategy for someone who likes to build and fix things. According to the US Labor Department being a carpenter and do carpentry work keep getting rosier and rosier.

About one third of all carpenters in the US are self-employed.

When I was working in Florida, I had a friend who took an early retirement package from the big company. As I recalled, he was not in his sixties yet. This guy was pretty good with carpentry work and he seemed to be busy going around fixing things all the time.

My mother is now living in Florida, and she is always looking for somebody to come to the house and fix minor things like kitchen cabinet replacement, front door replacement, bathroom tile replacement. A lot of these works gone by unanswered because we could not find the right guy.

Some Carpentry works;

    Fix and replace kitchen cabinets
    Fix and replace wooden doors
    Fix and replace some external doorsteps
    Fix and replace bathroom cabinets
    Fix and replace garage door...

We want to keep the work activity small enough so we can do it part time. The work may be small but the money is not. Replacing a home main entrance door cost $600; $500 for the door and $100 for the labor. That was seven odd years ago.

Today, according to the US Labor Department. The average carpenter earns about $17.00 per hour and the top 10% can make about $29 per hour.

Carpentry license may be required.

To me I consider Baby Boomer Carpentry work as an indirect proactive retiring strategy. This is something you do to make enough money to purchase a rental unit.

Now if you don’t want to manage the rental property, you can hire a realtor to do it for you. It is worth it, and you can continue to do your carpentry work you love.

An exception may be if you happen to turn your carpentry work into an income producing business, then you may skip the rental unit approach. The ultimate objective is to have a streaming income coming from your efforts under your full control.
